Caregivers Must Detect Stroke the Fast Way

Caregivers must detect stroke the FAST way… that’s F for Facial Weakness, A for Arm Weakness, S for Speech Difficulty, and T for the timely manner of acting. This is particularly true for caregivers attending to patients who have already suffered a stroke or for patients that are at risk to suffer a stroke.

FACIAL WEAKNESSThis means the person is exhibiting any one or all of the following symptoms: • sudden numbness or weakness of the face• can’t smile• face fallen in one side• mouth or eyes drooping

Break Old Habits to Avoid Another Stroke

Breaking old habits is a means to avoid another stroke. Practically speaking, this could be easier said than done–but not impossible!

Human nature shows that once a person suffers a very painful experience, that person tends to gravitate towards something that will relieve the pain and promises to avoid it from happening again. However, human nature also shows that once comfort sits in and pain is tremendously relieved, the same person has the tendency to return to the old habits that brought the said person to the very same painful experience in the first place.

Is Stroke Recovery Possible?

Having a stroke can be a life changing event. A stroke not only affects the person who had it but the people in their lives. Stroke recovery should begin from the first day. There are many treatments for recovery. Treatments include both physical and psychological rehabilitation. There are also medications that may help in speeding your recovery. Recovery from a stroke can continue throughout the rest of your life.

Prevention From Long Term Effects From Strokes

Suffering from a stroke can be a debilitating scary moment in one’s life that leaves them with the agonizing process of putting all the broken pieces back together again. Symptoms of a stroke usually are blurred vision, slurred speech, and the inability to walk. In some cases patients lose the ability to feel pain or temperature due to the sensory part of the brain has been affected.

Stroke rehabilitation is a crucial part in the recovery process. The earlier a rehabilitation program is started the better the chance a sufferer has at regaining their speech, vision, and mobility.

The Importance of Learning CPR

We see people performing CPR all the time on television and in the movies. It seems pretty easy and most of the time it works as victims wake up dazed and confused, but none the worse for wear. But if you were presented with an emergency situation in real life, would you be able to respond with life-saving measures? CPR isn’t performed exactly how it looks and there are definite techniques to learn. It’s always a good idea to take a CPR course because you never know when you will need it. Life isn’t exactly like a movie, it’s actually a lot more unpredictable, so it’s always a good idea to be prepared. It’s a lot better to know CPR and not need it, then to need it and not know it at all.
